Flowcells are a useful addition to a refractometer where sample throughput is high. Depending on the application and the requirement of the system, a choice can be made between funnel and flow-through type cells. Where larger volumes of sample are available, such as in the sugar industry, funnel flowcells may be used. These negate the need to clean the instrument prism between sample measurements, providing a rapid sample turnaround. Macro flowcells are used where sample viscosity limits the use of micro-flowcells. Micro flowcells are typically used in conjunction with an autosampler. Typical applications include use with density meters and/or polarimeters in breweries for calculating alcohol content and flavours & fragrance applications. Micro flowcells are also used in beverage applications especially in ‘audit laboratories’. All flowcells are supplied with an instrument stand that allows the refractometer to sit at a pre-determined angle, ensuring optimum performance of the flowcell. Flowcells are supplied as complete kits incorporating cell, tubing, instrument stand and instruction for use.
